Pure Movement Update: Nearing the Finish Line
It’s been an exciting few months watching Pure Movement come to life here in Portage, Michigan. We’re now in the later stages of our build-out, but unfortunately, progress has been delayed due to one final obstacle — Consumers Energy has yet to connect the building’s electrical service. While that has created some understandable challenges for the construction team, we’re confident this last step will be resolved soon so we can finish strong.
Fortunately, Pure Movement was designed with simplicity and purpose in mind. Beyond the restroom and utility room, the majority of the facility is dedicated to open, functional training and clinic space — allowing us to maximize flow, flexibility, and efficiency during sessions. This thoughtful layout will make it easy to accommodate different types of training at once — whether that’s one-on-one, semi-private, small group, or physical therapy.
When you walk into the facility, you’ll notice a space that feels clean, open, and focused. Every square foot has a purpose — from the turf area designed for dynamic movement to the strength area outfitted for both barbell and functional training. The layout encourages movement, collaboration, and a sense of community. It’s not cluttered or overwhelming — it’s intentionally designed to help clients and coaches focus on what really matters: training well and moving better.
Over the past few months, I’ve also been connecting with some of the most talented and motivated coaches and therapists in the Portage and Kalamazoo area. The goal has always been bigger than building a gym — it’s about building a community.
At Pure Movement, our mission is to invest in hardworking professionals who are passionate about helping others so we can collectively offer unique, high-quality services to our clients. These professionals are smart, driven, and deeply committed to improving the health and performance of our local community. You’ll see that reflected not only in how we train, but in how we collaborate — coaches and therapists working side-by-side to support your goals from every angle.
As someone who’s spent years in athletic training and sports medicine, my dream has been to create a space where people can train smarter — not harder — while feeling supported by a team of professionals who truly care. Pure Movement represents that vision coming to life.
Once construction wraps up, it’ll only be a matter of days before the space is fully outfitted with flooring, equipment, and finishing touches. We’re proud to feature high-quality equipment from trusted brands like Rogue, Titan, Ancore, TRX, Standard Barbell, and more. Whether you’re performing back squats, TRX rows, or pushing sleds down the turf, you’ll have access to reliable equipment that supports the quality experience we stand for.
But equipment is only part of what makes this space special. We’re equally excited about creating an environment where people feel connected and supported. Our goal is to host workshops, educational events, and community gatherings that bring the Portage and Kalamazoo areas together — a place where people of all backgrounds can come to move, learn, and grow.
