Physical Therapy in Portage

Personalized Physical Therapy That Restores Movement, Builds Confidence, and Helps You Return Stronger

At Pure Movement, we've reimagined what physical therapy should feel like.

Instead of rushed appointments, crowded clinics, and insurance-driven treatment plans, you'll receive personalized, one-on-one care in a calm, welcoming environment focused entirely on your goals.

Whether you're recovering from an injury, dealing with persistent pain, preparing to return to running, navigating pregnancy or postpartum recovery, or simply trying to move without limitations, we create individualized treatment plans designed around your body—not a protocol.

Our mission isn't just to help you feel better.

It's to help you move better for life.

One of the things that makes Pure Movement different is our collaborative approach to care. As your recovery progresses, you'll have access to additional sports medicine professionals and movement specialists who can help bridge the gap between rehabilitation, strength training, performance, and lifelong health. Whether your goal is returning to work, sports, fitness, or simply keeping up with your family, we're here to support every stage of your journey.

Conditions We Commonly Treat

Portage physical therapist provides woman feedback when performing balance exercise for a runner with knee pain.

We help clients throughout Portage, Kalamazoo, and Southwest Michigan recover from conditions including:

  • Orthopedic injuries (shoulder, knee, hip, spine, ankle, etc.)

  • Sports and overuse injuries (tendinopathies, sprains, muscle strains)

  • Running-related pain and gait dysfunction

  • Pregnancy, postpartum, and pelvic floor-related pain

  • Return-to-activity post-surgery or post-rehab

Whether your symptoms developed suddenly or have been lingering for years, our goal is to identify why they're happening and create a plan that helps you move confidently again.

Comprehensive Evaluations That Go Beyond Pain Relief

Every evaluation begins with listening.

We take time to understand your history, daily activities, goals, and concerns before performing a comprehensive movement assessment. By evaluating how your entire body moves—not just the painful area—we're able to develop treatment plans that create lasting improvement.

Treatment may include:

  • Hands-on manual therapy, including: cupping & instrument assisted soft-tissue manipulation (IASTM)

  • Individualized corrective exercise

  • Mobility and flexibility training

  • Progressive strength development

  • Slow motion running analysis & return to running programming

  • Education to help prevent future injuries

Our goal isn't simply to decrease pain.

It's to help you build a stronger, more resilient body that allows you to stay active long after therapy is finished.

Meet Our Physical Therapist

Kaela Frailing, PT, DPT

Kaela Frailing is a Doctor of Physical Therapy who is passionate about helping people return to the activities they love through thoughtful, individualized care. She combines evidence-based treatment with a whole-body approach, recognizing that pain is often influenced by movement patterns, strength, mobility, and lifestyle—not just the injured area.

Kaela has advanced training and experience in pelvic health physical therapy and enjoys working with individuals during pregnancy and throughout the postpartum period. Whether you're hoping to stay active while pregnant, return to exercise after delivery, reduce pelvic or low back pain, or simply feel more confident moving again, she develops treatment plans tailored specifically to your goals and stage of life.

In addition to pelvic health, Kaela treats a wide range of orthopedic conditions including low back pain, SI joint dysfunction, shoulder injuries, and running-related injuries. As an avid runner herself, she understands the unique demands that running places on the body and enjoys helping runners return to training safely and confidently.

Originally from southwest Michigan, Kaela earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Western Michigan University and is passionate about helping her local community move better for life. Outside the clinic, you'll often find her trail running or enjoying a good book.
