Pure Movement Is Officially Open in Portage, MI

After months of planning, preparation, and hard work behind the scenes, we’re excited to officially announce that Pure Movement is open and ready to serve the Portage and Kalamazoo community.

Two weeks ago, we received our occupancy permit, marking a major milestone in bringing this vision to life. Since then, we’ve begun transitioning our regular clients from other gyms into the new space, allowing us to get settled, refine the flow of the facility, and ensure every detail is aligned with the experience we want to deliver.

Now, we’re ready to open our doors wider.

Growing Services & Momentum

This week, we’ve officially expanded our offerings beyond one-on-one personal training to include semi-private personal training, creating more opportunities for individualized coaching in a collaborative environment. At the same time, our small group training programs are beginning to grow, with new members gradually joining and building momentum.

We’re right where we want to be—starting strong, staying intentional, and building a community the right way.

A Space Designed for How You Move

From day one, the goal for Pure Movement was to create a facility that blends performance, rehabilitation, and functional training into one cohesive environment. The gym is looking great overall, and we’ve built a strong foundation with the right equipment—while still leaving plenty of open space to move freely and train the way your body was designed to.

Below is a breakdown of each area within the facility so you can get a feel for the space:

Waiting Area

Your experience starts the moment you walk in. Our waiting area is designed to feel welcoming, clean, and comfortable—giving you a space to relax before your session or connect with others in the community.

Physical Therapy & Evaluation Area

This is where we take a deeper dive into your movement. Whether it’s an initial assessment, injury evaluation, or movement analysis, this space allows us to understand exactly what your body needs and build a plan around it.

Resistance Training Area

The heart of the gym. This space is equipped with:

  • Ancore cable unit for versatile resistance training

  • Dumbbells and kettlebells for strength and stability

  • Squat racks and barbells for foundational lifts & power

Everything here is intentionally selected to support efficient, effective strength training for all levels.

Turf & Functional Training Area

This is where movement comes to life. Featuring:

  • Turf for sled work and dynamic warm-ups

  • Sleds for strength and conditioning

  • TRX suspension trainers for bodyweight control

  • Stability balls for rehabilitation and core strengthening

This area allows us to train beyond traditional lifting—focusing on how your body performs in real-world movement.

Cardio & Movement Analysis Area

Our cardio setup is simple and purposeful:

  • Treadmill for warm-ups, cool-downs, and running analysis

  • Airdyne bike for low-impact conditioning

This space plays a key role in both performance training and recovery, as well as helping runners improve efficiency and reduce injury risk.
